Turkish Doctors Bring Back to Life 17-Year-Old Girl

A 17-year-old girl from Georgia, who lost half of her skull as a result of a traffic accident, underwent many surgeries and failed to make any progress. Turkish doctors brought her back to life with titanium rapiers.

The young girl, who had head shaping surgery performed in original dimensions using advanced technologies, stated that she felt better as the rehabilitation process continued, and that she and her family were happier.

20-year-old Mariami Tchanturidze from Georgia, who lost a large part of her skull as a result of a traffic accident in Georgia 3 years ago, applied to a private hospital in Turkey to request skull reshaping surgery. As a result of the examinations performed on Mariami, whose application was accepted, it was noticed that almost half of the skull dome was missing as a result of the fracture or removal of the skull bone, first during the accident and later during the surgeries.

Mariami Tchanturidze had an operation that lasted approximately 3 hours after the necessary preparations were made for the surgery. Op said that the young girl will be given rehabilitation support due to the damage to her brain caused by accidents and surgeries. Dr. Selçuk Gözcü said that physical therapy will begin so that the patient can walk, talk and continue his basic activities.

She Came to Turkey with Hope as a Result of a Traffic Accident

Explaining that the patient had skull damage due to the surgeries he underwent in his own country before coming to Turkey, Gözcü said, “After the traffic accident the patient had, he had a long period of intensive care due to problems such as fracture of the skull bones and brain hemorrhage.

He was operated on many times during this period. The patient applied to us with a request for head reshaping surgery during the rehabilitation period. When the invitation arrived, we made examinations and evaluations. We saw that almost half of the skull dome of the young girl was missing as a result of the fracture or removal of the skull bone during both the accident and the surgeries. Afterwards, we took our patient into surgery and he had a successful operation,” she said.

Rehabilitation and physical therapy process has begun

“By building a new skull very close to the old skull, we started the process of making the patient happy again in both his appearance and social life,” said Op. Dr. Selçuk Gözcü said, “Our patient will definitely continue the rehabilitation period due to the brain damage in the future. “Regarding these, we will focus on the rehabilitation process along with physical therapy so that he can walk, talk and continue his basic activities,” he said.

“He will be able to participate in social life while protecting his health”

Stating that the technology to reshape the head has developed a lot, Gözcü stated that they use the advanced possibilities of technology at the highest level in their hospitals, that they performed operations that did not disappoint the young girl’s trust in Turkish doctors, and gave the following information about the method applied to the young girl during the surgery: “We performed a surgery on the patient that would reshape the head and calvarium using titanium rapiers. These surgical infrastructures can now be performed very easily in three-dimensional systems in computerized environments. What is important here when making a decision is the patient’s own defect at that moment and his future expectations. “The important thing was to create a system that could integrate into social life and protect one’s own health.”

“The patient’s functional losses may return with rehabilitation treatment”

Noting that the surgery took an average of 2-3 hours, Gözcü said, “After the surgery, we followed our patient in intensive care for a day. Afterwards, we took it to normal service. After this, the physical therapy process will begin. As a matter of fact, the young girl has some functional losses such as speaking and eating due to the damage to her brain. The recovery of all important functions of the patient in the future will occur through the rehabilitation process. He concluded his words by saying, “It makes us very happy to give people new life energy and hope.”

“We came here for the most important surgery”

Expressing her happiness for her daughter’s successful surgery, mother Nadiya Kaftaradze expressed her gratitude to the Turkish doctors and the entire hospital team and said:

“My daughter was hospitalized because she suffered a closed brain trauma as a result of a car accident. He had to undergo a lot of surgery. His aneurysm ruptured and he had a heart attack. Doctors intervened in Georgia for 3.5 years, but we came here because they could not perform the most important surgery. My daughter’s surgery was very successful and she was even taken to the normal ward the next day. “That’s why, first of all, we would like to thank Mr. Selçuk and all the hospital staff.”
